This is one of the earliest Davenports songs. Melissa Veys-Marinovich and I wrote this in 1999, I believe. A spoof on the free dating rag at the time. Melissa sings lead, Scott Schwister drums, Daniel Christian on backing vox, and Mike Koehn arranged the lead guitars. I play guitars and Noah Beadell-inspired bass. This is another one retrieved from the original reel tapes that Dan, Noah, Scott, and I laid down in the early 2000s in Dan's living room. It took a total of 69 (!) tracks to complete (36 of them vocals) in 2025, and for you numerologists, I was born in 1969, many years ago today.

Lyrics

It seems the moments are only fleeting
now when I seriously think of dating.
It's not worth the whole new headache,
and I already don't have time to eat well,
and I'm afraid just to get some sleep now.
And we misguess and overguess and
never straight-to-face ask 'cause
no communication, never any chances taken,
and he's probably got a girlfriend anyway,
and how can you just go up to him anyway?
I don't know, seems like you're fading . . .
Are you falling in love?
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
Do we use the same names,
are we on the same page?
Someone's always to your back in the round.

I've got 5 too many distractions
keeping me from chasing, seeing any real action.
Full-time, part-time jobs cut into song time,
broken radiator fumes cut into my throat.
Hanging on 'til school's done May, 2001.
And we misguess and overguess and
never straight-to-face ask 'cause
no communication, never any chances taken,
and he's probably got a girlfriend anyway,
and how can you just go up to him anyway?
I don't know, seems like you're fading . . .
Are you falling in love?
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
Do we use the same names,
are we on the same page?
Someone's always to your back in the round.

You know I need my time alone,
but I am happy when she comes here.
And I still cannot believe
that she responded to the ad.
Want no more scars and no more roadblocks
'cross the lovelines of my hands.
But I'm not sure that to another
I could be a married man.
Keep your fingers off the clock hands,
she's the angel of the band.

Deep down I'm scared:
what if everything is random,
no emotional attachment.
Leaving sex even emptier still.
Heart attack is waiting for me just around the next bend.
And we misguess and overguess and
never straight-to-face ask 'cause
no communication, never any chances taken,
and he's probably got a girlfriend anyway,
and how can you just go up to him anyway?
I don't know, seems like you're fading . . .
Are you falling in love?
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
(Are you falling asleep?)
Thought I was falling in love
Do we use the same names,
are we on the same page?
Someone's always to your back in the round.
