In the early 90s, a friend mailed me several bootleg cassettes of live Trip Shakespeare shows which included several songs I'd never heard before. "The Bride," written by Dan Wilson, was among them. I immediately fell in love with the song and included it in the NSD live set for years. It sadly remains officially unreleased, and we humbly offer our version here as big Trip fans.
Daniel Christian drums and sings backing vox, and Melissa Veys Marinovich also sings backing vox. Dan Hutt plays guitars and bass and sings the lead.
Lyrics
Here at the scene of the accident,
wedding vows going down.
Now I pronounce to the preacher when
celebration all around.
I said, "Honey, it's your life,
do you wanna be the bride?"
Everyone told you what you should do,
you just did what you had to do, yeah.
Oooh baby, do you still want to be the bride?
You came to me, and you showed me what can hurt you.
I said, "Darling, stay the night."
Don't go back and let those hands touch you.
You should have music in your eyes."
Dark blue beneath the white.
Do you want to be the bride?
Everyone told you what you should do,
you just did what you had to do, yeah.
Oooh baby, do you still want to be the bride.
I'm laying here dreaming of your release.
Please don't ask me forever to hold my peace.
Dark blue beneath the white,
if you want to be the bride.
You know what it's like.
Do you want to be the bride?
Everyone told you what you should do,
you just did what you had to do, yeah.
Oooh baby, do you still want to be the bride?
Everyone said the boy was bad news,
you just did what you had to do, yeah.
Oooh baby, do you still want to be the bride?
