his song started out as a (failed) girl song in 2008, but I've repurposed it now and incorporated some radio theater (a la 1967's The Who Sell Out) inspired by my idyllic childhood in 1970s Tecumseh, NE and the ever present Cold War threat just up the road. Even here in the face of nuclear disaster, all I can think about is the girl. Ha!
I sing and play all the parts.
Lyrics
"Open Karma"
Open Karma,
lose the drama,
who needs all the
strain upon you.
I am standing
right before you:
make the move, and
come on over.
How can I impress
upon her: write
me down on your
calendar.
I just want to
be the one who,
when the time comes,
she will go to
make it through
her absence I'll
just have to fade
away.
There's nothing to
protect me from
the freckles on
her face.
But every time
I kiss her it's
like coming up
for air.
I think I'd like
to permanently
surface with her
there, there, there.
Like Oscar Wilde
from ILL,
deconstructing
all your selves. I'll
answer questions
anyway, let's
start day after
yesterday.
I fell for her.
I'd stay for her.
I'd like to know
her daughter.
She says she needs
her mind clear, let's
hope it circles
back here.
