Melissa Veys Marinovich sings a lovely backing vocal. The rest is Dan Hutt's fault.
The original title for this song was long and unwieldy: "I'm Pretty Sure She Doesn't Like Me (But It's Really Only Been Just Three Years)". It concludes my 24-year Kinetic Art Experiments wherein I've tried to sway women with my music. The results are conclusive: art does not sway women. At least mine doesn't.
Lyrics
I’m pretty sure she doesn’t like me
But I only wrote a dozen love songs
And it’s really only been just three years
Stupid little voice tells me to move on
But I thought I’d do another painting
And I’m working on a set of love poems
A romantic homage by novella
Or maybe a screening of a short film
This will be the one to sway her
This will be the one to bring her to me
This will be the one finally
When she comes around Nebraska sideways
I was thinking I could name a comet
Maybe dedicate and plant a new tree
I could offer her a box of cromlettes
Or some chocolate in a heart-shaped key
With an electronic mail to confirm receipt
And a follow-up textual message
To say I really hope you enjoyed the treats
And I didn’t want to keep you guessing
This will be the one to sway her
This will be the one that brings her to me
This will be the one finally
Where she comes around Nebraska sideways
This will be the one that's only for me
